Some Personal Info
My parents came from diverse cultural backgrounds, which gave me an early appreciation for different cultures—an interest that has continued to grow, fuelled by my passion for travelling. I greatly enjoy learning about cultures, languages, and food. Over the course of my studies and travels, I have made close friends from many parts of the world, and I try to keep in touch with them as much as possible.
If you are wondering, my name is Muddasser (pronounced mood-das-sir, origin Arabic) Alam (pronounced aa-lum, origin Persian). My nickname “Moody” is simply a shortened form of Muddasser (and has nothing to do with my mood!), and being called Moody doesn’t register on my Sarcasm-O-Meter.
Volunteering
I enjoy volunteering and have worked with various charities over the years. I am currently a certified Community Sighted Guide (Level 3) and volunteer with Guide Dogs, supporting blind and partially sighted people.
Since 2015, I have also been microfinancing entrepreneurs in developing countries to help them lift themselves out of poverty. To date, I have funded over 521 entrepreneurs (details here) through Lend With Care, and I have found this work deeply rewarding.
If you ever find me encouraging you to donate 10% of your income, it is because I am a member of Giving What We Can, an organisation that promotes charitable giving. If you have a moment, consider taking the Pledge to Give here.
